AfterThoughts

The Teenage Years: Yami - Angel Lights, Feeling Psychic and Chicken Nuggets

Episode Summary

Every day 34 people in their 20s and 30s are diagnosed with cancer. AfterThoughts explores some of their stories. But teenagers are diagnosed too. Seven people aged 13-24 are diagnosed every day. And that brings with it a whole host of other challenges. These are their stories. This is AfterThoughts: The Teenage Years. Supported by Teenage Cancer Trust.

Episode Notes

AfterThoughts: The Teenage Years was created to make visible some of the invisible cancer stories from within the young cancer community.

For Episode six, we're joined by the brilliant Yami (aka Yamikani). Yami was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma when she was 18 and underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy a stem cell transplant and was part of a clinical trial. Yami tells us about her "Angel light" mum, her youthful looking dad who was mistaken for her boyfriend (more than once!), a delivery of plain rice and chicken nuggets and losing her beloved afro.
