AfterThoughts

The Teenage Years: Freddie - Losing Friends, Patient Advocacy and Clinical Trials

Episode Summary

Every day 34 people in their 20s and 30s are diagnosed with cancer. AfterThoughts explores some of their stories. But teenagers are diagnosed too. Seven people aged 13-24 are diagnosed every day. And that brings with it a whole host of other challenges. These are their stories. This is AfterThoughts: The Teenage Years. Supported by Teenage Cancer Trust. For episode three of AfterThoughts: The Teenage Years, we're joined by Freddie

Episode Notes

AfterThoughts: The Teenage Years was created to make visible some of the invisible cancer stories from within the young cancer community.

We're here for episode three, and we're joined by Freddie, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when he was 16. Neuroblastoma is typically seen in babies and toddlers, so Freddie found himself even more stuck between the phases of childhood and adulthood than most teenage cancer patients do. He joined us to chat about losing old friends and making new ones, the importance of advocating for yourself and getting so close to his mum he could recognise her footsteps in the hallway. It's a goosepimple raiser, that's for sure.
